Cheers for the great present Liv and Han – they fit fine, and will be perfect for the summer. The nurds were pretty tasty!! Hope all good with the new house. Crips prezzie is lost in the post (as per usual!) – is yours Jul!!? Glad the parcel got there -can’t believe it was broken though. I packaged that up in a much bigger box than was needed, and at great personal expense, crammed it with your shorts and some saucisson for extra padding – festering posties :/ Send me a pic when it’s painted.

  1. a package from the book depository is winging its way to you at a rate of knots! but possibly it is on a tramp steamer and thus will take a year or two to arrive.
yes when the package arrived it looked as though someone had given it a good kicking, and speaking as an ex postie, it probably did.

Just starting to think about all the stuff I’ll need when I go to India in a couple of weeks. Passport, tickets and Iona… the rest not so vital I suppose…

  1. ah, well perhaps you could try to strengthen your constitution by eating suitably dodgy food and drinking pond water for a few weeks beforehand;-)

    1. hmm, well, that comment possibly betrays the fact that I have never been!

      1. well… last time I was in Leh (which is where I’m going) even the apple juice gave me the rageing shites

        1. Nice! Especially when a left hand is all you have for cleansing purposes;-)

  2. Possibly the apples were picked with those same left hands …

Cool Britannia

Financial Times: Do you want to start by paying tribute to Michael Jackson, Peter? Everyone else seems to be doing that.

Peter Mandelson: I’m not absolutely sure who Michael Jackson is.

  1. I assume you mention this not to show the immense ignorance of Lord Mandy (being in a group of one) but rather to voice your agreement with Peter that Michael Jackson was an irrelevance in your life who can be easily brushed aside?

    1. It was more a comment on New Labour. As Noel Gallagher said, for him the disillusionment was like finding out Father Christmas didn’t exist.

  2. possibly expressing amusement at the extraordinary media u turn that has taken place or how everyone suddenly feels the need to glorify someone, who was so recently vilified, just because he has died. personally, im looking forward to the Michael Jackson memorial plates soon to be featured in private eye. (don’t wash as the paint may flake off revealing Jade goody/Princess Di etc….)

    1. Oddly enough, the latest issue of Private Eye arrived today. On page 22, Gnome Souvenirs are indeed offering the “Michael Jackson Memorial Plate”. The usual warning is given against washing or exposing to strong light, but this time, not because the image of someone else might be found underneath, but because “there is a possibility that the singer’s face could turn black”.

      Me, too.

  1. the lack of access to the internets at our new place is a bit disconcerting. a belated many happy returns from me. Hope the parcel arrives ok. (despite it being entirely in Han’s handwriting, i played a full and active part;-) – it’s just that her writing is better than mine…)
