Train or car

Well, the plan is we five go up in Bertie on Saturday. If you come on Tuesday evening by train on a return ticket, Jul can use it to get back on Friday and you can come back with us in Bertie on Saturday. If you drive up, we’ll return in Bertie with Jul on Friday, and you drive back with T and G on Saturday. Claro?

The only downside of having only Bertie up there is getting around on the two days when there are six of us. The downside of you driving is it’s a hell of a hike on Tuesday evening after a long day’s work, it costs more and … er … that’s it.

Driving

Maybe I’m being too impatient!

“The DSA surveyed people who had just passed their test and came up with the following which may be of interest.

Remember these are averages and everyone is different.

Average time taken to learn in months: female = 14.6 male = 12.0.

Average hours with Advanced Driving Instructor: female 51.9 hrs male 36.2 hrs.

Average private practice: female/ male both just over 32 hrs”

Hove to

As I said, you’ve never really been sailing until you’re hove to in the Bristol Channel main shipping lane at night in a Gale force 17 wind with no lights on because the drunken skipper sheltering below wants to conserve battery power and you’re alone on deck when a massive oil tanker rears out of nowhere and shines its spotlight on you and sounds an alarmingly loud horn … blah …blah … blah.

The fact is, if there’s so much as a tremor of wind when I’m afloat, I’m in the queue for being helicoptered out.

Windsurfing

Much excitement today when I did my three hour course and found at the end I could happily careen across the lake, practically turning on a sixpence. Amazingly, I didn’t fall in once; so my wetsuit remained dry.

I wonder what will happen when I try my new skills out on the bane board?
