Chamski 2005

News of potentially the best snow of the season greeted us when we landed at Geneva airport. We weren’t disappointed.

Desparate the to get on the slopes, we were foiled by the inept baggage handlers, the crazy snow slowing down the traffic and the fact that that we couldn’t check in to the apartment or collect Chris and Robert’s skis and snowboard til late pm.

We found ways to pass the time…

It snowed all through the night and pretty much non stop for the next four days:-D Epic, epic powder everywhere.

We struck lucky on the first day and found a bench inside to eat – we’d have died if we’d eaten outside! Robert was not so lucky with his crisps… hilarity:-D

Knee-high powder was too much for Chris’ skis sometmes, but when i’d shifted my bindings back and inch or so and leant back a bit the board seemed to be able to handle everything.

The Apres-Ski was a little rubbish as it was January and nobody was around, but that’s the price we paid for near-zero wait time for the lifts.

Not many of the higher lifts were open early on, but when they did open the scenes were incredible. I think this is Robert in this pic. It was also -25 ∞C.

We had to wrap up warm after the chair lift up. Our chins and noses had pretty much frozen.

We found the one happening bar in town. Unfortunatly, so had everyone else in the entire world and it was far too full.

Mont-Blanc i think, behind the clouds.

The sun came out on the last two days. Glorious.

We tried the odd bit of off-piste. Chamonix is famous for it after all. Great fun though a little scary at times.

More jollity at the top of La Grand Montet. Great view. We should gone the the higher Aguilles De Midi but Chris and I didn’t want to waste the Ski time!

The time honoured through-the-goggles technique.

All in all fantastic. I doubt I’ll see snow like that again for a long time. if ever.
