White morning

Dear Julio,

We woke up on wednesday to a glorious white day. The snow was at least 10 cm deep. I rushed outside. It was peacefully quiet with only a few birds chirping about. Every leaf was supporting a big bonnet of powdery snow. I threw a few snowballs around and then went down Church Lane to see further afield. It was so beautiful. The snow was balanced on every little twig, blade of grass, bushes, trees, roofs. I could not see the Downs as everything was enveloped in a powdery mist.

I met a few people going to work or walking their dogs. They gave me a beaming smile, a ‘good morning’ that had a definite gleeful tonality, and a friendly wave. But I could feel on the way that this happiness was beginning to melt with the snow. I hurried back to rescue the magical moment and met an oldish man juggling a big snowball and looking, with a glint of malice perhaps, for an easy target.

I wish you were here. We could have built a snowman.

singapore

ahoy! singapore is as nice as i remember it. a city of the future filled with really friendly people. as it happens i just had a refreshing glass of suger cane juice and i had some seedless watermelon yesterday. good stuff! i have yet to find the pie place but the china town mall close to where we are staying rings a bell.

unfortunatly my arrival was spoilt by a parting gift from india, some sort of illness not unlike flu. i was a bit worried that i might have got maleria, but as it turns out im feeling much better now and i must just have been run down from lack of sleep and stuff.

india was alright on a whole.

it is a lot easier to write down what wieghs heaviest on the mind and also what might be interesting to read. this paints a bit of a negertive picture of india.  but in reality i enjoyed myself and it was a good experiance. however, i was interested in finding out about indian culture and having done so, i find that i don’t like it that much.

nice to see snow! has it been snowing long? here its muggy and hot but a light drizzle is falling which is quite refreshing.

of interest to no one but liv perhaps, i went to one of the massive shopping malls dealing with electronic stuff. i picked up omongst other things final fantasy 3 and hotel dusk: room 314. they are still in there wrapping as i atempt to elongate the pleasant feeling of anticipation.

might try and ring later.

NZ and India

Mmm… Jul why are you going round in circles through parts of India that you don’t like much and how did you not know that you have to go across the river to the best bit. I know that and I’ve never even been there – surely the Lonely Planet must have advised you?! Have you even enjoyed it India? You seem to have large amounts of loathing. Personally I’d happilly take the next plane out to India and remain there until a six month visa had expired.

I’m sitting on a computer when I should be skydiving. Such is the Kiwi weather that I am unable to jump as the cloud would probably electrocute me – at least I have a humungous steak in the fridge for my birthday dinner.

Will return in two weeks with an actual tan and a video of my epic 134m plunge

Indiaman

I remember Singapore chiefly for its sugar cane drinks, seedless watermelons and tasty pies, but also for its high humidity and sapping heat. Here, it’s close to freezing with the cental heating on the blink and only a log fire for comfort.
